Atlas Tunnelling: What we do

We specialise in all aspects of drainage and ground works. Providing professional, cost effective services in all aspects of trenchless technology as outlined below.

Guided and unguided Auger boring

This method excavates boreholes beneath the surface and allows our operatives to install new pipes while minimising above-ground impact. After digging the pits, our experienced on site contractors insert a steel casing into the ground with an auger screw attached—extracting the soil as the auger and casing advance.

Auger boring is an established method within the field of trenchless technology. Due to its commonality and familiarity with contractors, it has become one of the most inexpensive and low-tech trenchless methods.

Timber Headings

Timber headings are a traditional horizontal technique whereby timber sets, constructed by our own on site operatives, are used to support a tunnel construction

Pipe Bursting

Pipe Bursting is a trenchless method of sewer construction. It is an alternative to the Open Trench Excavation method that allows for replacing or upsizing an existing pipe without the need for a traditional construction trench. Crews dig a sending pit and a receiving pit to install a new sewer pipe.

Shaft Sinking

Shaft mining or shaft sinking is the action of excavating a mine shaft from the top down, where there is initially no access to the bottom.

Shaft sinking is one of the most difficult of all mining development methods: restricted space, gravity, groundwater and specialized procedures make the task quite formidable. Shafts may be sunk by conventional drill and blast or mechanised means.
